Description

"One of the best Chianti Classicos ever" Luca Maroni

Deeply intense ruby color in the glass followed by a fragrance of ripe red currants, cherries, plums and hints of baking spice laced underneath.  On the palate, a firmly structured mouthfeel of velvet tannins, elegant notes of tar, roses and leather coupled by a vein of fresh acidity keep the wine in balance and lead into a long, supple finish.

Classico is the original and most prestigious Chianti zone, first recognised for quality in 1716. The Taddei family's Lornano estate in the Castellina hills make this superb, 97 point, satin smooth wine purely from Sangiovese, oak aged for 12 months.

The demand for Chianti has sky rocketed in the last few years and the region has expanded way beyond its original centre. This seminal zone is now called Chianti Classico and here the finest wines are made. The Taddei family's medium sized Fattoria Lornano (wine estate, not factory!) makes wine from its own 28 hectares of Sangiovese vines. All bottles proudly bear the 'Gallo Nero' (black rooster) symbol unique to wines from the Classico zone. The 2013 vintage is considered 'classic' due to a great summer and late autumn harvest. After a year in French oak and time in bottle, the wine is ready now.
