Description
"Full, very dark, near impenetrable, purple-black hued red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is softly presented showing a building heart of ripe, dark raspberry and blackberry fruit along with notes of black pepper, plum jam and liquorice. This is up-front, vibrant and quite primary in expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate has up-front, sweetly rich and lusciously ripe flavours of dark raspberry and blackberry fruit with notes of plum jam, liquorice, and nuances of pepper and spice. The mouthfeel is fleshy and juicy, with fine-grained supple tannin extraction and balanced acid freshness. The wine carries with good energy to a lingering plummy finish. This is an up-front, sweet and juicy, rich Shiraz with dark raspberry, blackberry and plum favours on a fleshy palate with fine structure. Match with barbecued fare and roast red meats over the next 3-4 years. Hand-picked Shiraz fruit, 80% from McLaren Vale and 20% Monash Valley, vines 25 y.o., fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 30% new French oak. Australian Certified Organic" Raymond Chan, March 2018
"Sourced primarily from mature dry-grown vineyards of McLaren Vale, this wine is vivid red / purple in colour with a lifted nose of ripe fruits - blackberries and blood plums. The palate is opulent and inviting, flooded with dark plum and blackcurrant fruit flavours and framed by exotic smoked spices and fine-grained savoury tannins. The finish is long and impressively detailed for such a rich and mouth-filling wine. Approachable now but with the ability to improve in the cellar for up to 10 years" London Wine Competition 2018

The 2017 vintage saw a return to conditions no commonly seen for over two decades. A very wet winter followed but a cool summer with few spikes of heat, resulted in harvest being a month later than normal in recent years. However, a dry and consistently moderate autumn ensured the fruit was able to ripen slowly I ideal conditions. This ‘throwback’ vintage will become famed for quality and elegance of the fruit.
Sourced primarily from mature, dry-grown vineyards in the McLaren Vale's flat sub district. The fruit was hand harvested and sorted before de-stemming and cool fermentation in small two tonne open fermenters with regular hand plunging. Matured in season French oak (30% new) for ten months before bottling with minimal filtration and sulphur addition.
