Description

"A lovely savoury style, the fragrant bouquet shows smoked game, clove, dried herb and warm spice aromas with sweet berry undertones. The palate delivers fine texture and rounded mouthfeel, nicely structured by fine, chalky tannins, finishing long, firm and dry. The wine offers attractive combination of fruit and spicy/savoury flavours. At its best: now to end of 2018" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2017

"Sustainable farming, and no insecticides in viticulture, form the back drop of Pied Stilt’s wine-growing efforts since 2001. This pinot noir is ‘lightly oaked’. Easy going wines these. Cracking little number here. Isn’t trying too hard, shows cherry, cherry pip and pomegranate acidity to taste, good cherry and spice scents to sniff on. Light in body, crisp, juicy. Finishes with a lick of sweetness then peppery spice. Great drinking here" Mike Bennie, The Wine Front (Sydney), May 2016

"Red and vibrant, youthful and with a lot of lot of life ahead. Texture great, not a heavy wine, a balanced and terrific Nelson Pinot with some finesse showing in the fruit.  Tasting well now, watch it open in the wine glass, yet able to expand further with bottle age. Lots of time and development ahead – into 2020" Peter Saunders, July 2015

Good ripe flavours true to variety, positive in its fruit statement, yet not heavy.

The 2014 Pinot Noir achieved 24 Brix at harvest and will be noted as one of the best vintages in history. Many months of hot dry weather and some cooler Autumn nights aided ripening. Grapes were from both Clone UDC 5 and combined with clone 10/5 at even amounts. Machine harvested, with traditional fermentation undertaken in open red fermenters and a postsoak allowing integration of delicate tannins. Moderately oaked to give perfect balance and backing
to take this wine well into the future years.

An aged Pinot Noir suits my palate and this is quite luxurious for the price.
