Description

"Bright, even, light straw-yellow colour with some depth, lighter edged. This is very elegant and refined on the nose with tightly bound aromas of white and yellow stonefruits melded with citrus fruit notes forming a concentrated core. Layers of nutty and mealy notes unfold, along with barrel-ferment complexities, minerals, smoke and a little flinty detail. Medium-bodied, rich and concentrated flavours of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits are entwined with nuts, flint and mealy elements, along with savoury, creamy, barrel-ferment notes. The fruit depth is balanced and enlivened by crisp, lacy acidity. As the wine flows, the fruit sweetness grows, with some alcoholic power and fine textures guiding the wine to a very long, vibrant and juicy finish with citrus fruit and nutty nuances. This is an elegant, concentrated, rich and refreshing Chardonnay with layers of complex flavours. Serve with roasted poultry and pork over the next 5+ years. Fruit from the Neudorf ‘Home Block’, ‘Rosie’s Block’ and other Moutere sites, clones Mendoza, 15, 95, 8021 and 548, hand-picked, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented with high solids to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees with batonnage, undergoing 100% MLF." Raymond Chan Wine Reviews

"Once labelled as 'Tom's Block' this bright, high energy Chardonnay has fine citrus/grapefruit flavours with subtle nut and bran biscuit characters. Accessible now but there is no rush to drink it, in fact the wine should develop even more flesh and flavour over the next few years.  Drink 2015 to 2020." Bob Campbell

This Chardonnay has an elegant and linear quality reminiscent of fine Chablis. Pale daffodil green yellow in the glass. Vibrant ripe fruit notes on the nose leading into a palate of fresh crusty breadand peach kernel with a finish of river- stone minerality. A wine of individuality and complexity.

A moderate winter followed by a warm spring and dry summer produced one of the earliest vintages on record. Fruit was harvested under excellent conditions and we see wines with great textural character and poise.
