Description

  • French & Hungarian oak
  • Intense structure
  • Concentrated
  • Soft texture

A nice wine with defined structure and pronounced concentration. The wine’s olfactory panorama is ample and profound while at once immediate and present. An intense structure characterizes this wine, but with a beautiful softness and a remarkably clean finish.

Composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot vinified separately and extracted by soft pressing.

Following destemming and gentle pressing, each variety is produced separately. Fermentation and maceration occur in stainless steel tanks for about 15-20 days ata controlled temperature never exceeding 28°C. Half of the wine is then put into 225-liter barrels made of used French and Hungarian oak, where malolactic fermentation takes place. The other half of the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, the final blend is made and, subsequently, the wine is bottled.

The 2021 vintage will be a memorable one thanks to different elements: climate, which presented a dry and hot season, production, which yielded excellent quantity and quality; and the timely management of all harvesting activities in the vineyard and in the cellar. It was a short harvest that began on September 2 and ended on October 1st, bringing in excellent results and proving the continuous productivity of Argentiera vineyards. All varieties have performed well despite the difficult and rainless year. But the scarce rain has allowed the harvest of healthy and perfectly ripe grapes. The grapes destined for Poggio ai Ginepri were collected during the second week of harvest. The summery climate, with prevailing winds from the west and east, and the excellent amount of brightness have ensured the best conditions for the maturation of Cabernet Sauvignon, making the polyphenols accumulated in the skin more accessible. The red grapes showed regular fermentation and extraction, yielding wines with rich aromas and remarkable structure: excellent indicators of a promising potential and, therefore, of an outstanding vintage. Poggio ai Ginepri 2021 has a strong structure, but is also pleasantly delicate and clean, revealing a fresh and lively finish.
