Description

  • Dried cherry
  • Dark chocolate
  • Roasted nut
  • Velvety mouthfeel

"Superbly complex and seductive, the wine shows dried cherry, cured meat, leather, roasted nut and bouquet garni aromas. The palate offers terrific weight and silky flow, wonderfully complemented by spicy/savoury nuances, finishing with a sustained velvety mouthfeel. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2022

"Made from a blend of varieties and held for four years in barrel and bottle before release. Mellow, smooth-textured red with savoury/dried herb, forest floor, cedar, leather and charcuterie flavours. Seamless, complex red that is deliciously accessible now" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Nov 2022

"A soft, seductive, bottle-aged wine that shows why Spain makes the best value reds in the world" Steve Bennett, Master of Wine, Importer

Complex and savoury on the nose with dark forest fruit, wild herbs and hints of dark chocolate. Medium-full-bodied, smooth, soft, textural wine with seamless tannins.

A unique blend of Tempranillo/Garnacha/Syrah/Cabernet.This wine is an enterprising blend of old vine vineyards made by famous family-owned producer Bodega Muriel, founded in 1926 by José Murúa Villaverde. Sourced from four classic grape varieties selected from several regions in central Spain blended to create a smooth, rounded, complex, characterful, red that defies its price. The extreme continental climate of the central Spanish plains – hot dry summers and cold winters are key to developing flavour intensity and ripe, rounded tannins. Grapes are hand-harvested crushed and destemmed then fermented in stainless steel for 10 days at cool temperatures to retain the purity of fruit. The wine is aged 4 years before release to develop character, integration and softness of texture.

Food Pairing: Ideal with charcuteries, grilled vegetables and most meat and cheese dishes.

Very pleasant every day drinking.

This wine needs to be decantered a good 2 hours before consuming. This brings out the best smooth flavour. Will buy again at this price.

Probably a little past its shelf life, but still a deep, rich, old-fashioned red. I bought 6 originally and immediately after the first bottle ordered 6 more. That's a good sign.

Interesting complexity bit more to this wine than your average cheapies
