Description

Proudly cool climate wines, aged in French oak, with a lovely line of pure fruit, subtlety and elegance. The pristine fruit paired with refreshing acidity means there’s a restraint about them allowing them to age beautifully.

This Chardonnay, Syrah and a Merlot Cabernet blend, are renowned winemaker, Kate’s personal favourites and represent the best of Hawke’s Bay.

"Wine is about enjoying with family and friends, and with beautiful food. And that is the most satisfying thing for us at Radburnd Cellars – we make this wine which we enjoy sharing with other people. It can’t really get any better than that" Kate Radburnd, Winemaker

"Concentrated, powerful chardonnay with citrus, tree fruit, peach, struck-flint, mineral, hazelnut and brioche flavours. A seamless, sophisticated wine that's a pleasure to taste now but promises to develop well with bottle age. 2020–2025" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, May 2020

"From winemaker Kate Radburnd, best known for her long spell at Pask (1990–2017), the classy, youthful 2018 vintage (5*) was grown at Mangatahi and Bridge Pa, hand-picked and fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak puncheons and barriques (new and seasoned). Full of potential, it is mouthfilling and highly concentrated, with deep, citrusy, peachy flavours, woven with fresh acidity, finely integrated oak, and impressive vigour, complexity and length. A top debut, it’s well worth cellaring to 2022+" Michael Cooper

"Brilliant yellow with a golden and slight green hue, even colour throughout. The nose is elegantly full, growing with intensity, nuances of peaches, lemon flesh, honeydew melon interweave well-proportioned gunflint and toasted almonds. Medium-full bodied, the aroma of peaches, pink grapefruit, preserved citrus peels have positive ripeness, unfolding nougat, roasted almonds and amalgam spices linger to a long, sustained, elegant finish. The palate has a fluidity that's alluring; feathery light creaminess flows with seamless, well-integrated acidity, with focus and tension yet poise and graceful. A hint of phenolic carries positive citrus peels bitterness along with almond skins, added interest and complexity" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Jan 2021

"Light to medium-yellow colour, with a complex bouquet that showcases buttery popcorn notes, nougat and toast. The wine is medium to full-bodied and rich, with sustained flavour and lovely balance, the flavours lingering on and on superbly. Slightly oaky finish is the only quibble, and it's a small one. 2021-2027" Huon Hooke, Real Review, May 2021

An elegant Chardonnay which focuses on the beautiful structure so evident in this grape variety. Pristine fruit and balanced acidity are the backbone, enhanced with seamless texture and mouthfeel. Citrus notes, particularly grapefruit pith abound, gracefully supported by sweet French oak. Elegant and refined with a backbone of pristine fruit and balanced acidity, this finely concentrated Chardonnay has a lovely freshness and finesse which will become more complex and develop beautifully over 5-7 years.

1 x Radburnd Hawke's Bay Syrah 2019

AWARDED 96/100 POINTS & 5 STARS: Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2021

AWARDED 5 STARS: Michael Cooper, Buyer's Guide Edition 2022

"Dense, elegant syrah that is delightfully supple with dark berry, violet, black pepper, anise and spicy oak flavours. Delicious wine that can be appreciated now but should develop well with bottle age. A very impressive wine from an excellent vintage" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2021

"The refined, youthful 2019 vintage (5*) was hand-picked in the Bridge Pa Triangle and at Roys Hill, and matured for 16 months in French oak barriques (partly new). Full-coloured, it is a very age-worthy red, fresh, flowing and supple, with concentrated, vigorous, plum/spice flavours, oak complexity, and a seductively smooth texture" Michael Cooper, Buyer's Guide Edition 2022

A brooding black fruited Syrah which is well structured with alcohol, tannin and acidity. Dark spicy fruits are well supported with a hint of pure floral fragrance. Crafted to age well, complexity, concentration of pure ripe fruit and subtle sweet oak blend together to ensure this. This Syrah has lingering length and persistence of flavour, a hallmark of this variety.

"Deepish red colour with a good purple tint and a spicy berry bouquet: floral, ripely perfumed and very appealing. The wine is soft and fleshy, round and supple, with generous flavour and elegant styling. The tannins are silky-smooth and beautifully ripe. A quite delicious wine that drinks superbly now but should also cellar well for several years. 2021-2031" Huon Hooke, Real Review, May 2021

"Deep ruby-red with some transparency, lighter on edge. The nose has an elegant core and growing in intensity, nuances of red currants, cassis entwined with vanillin, cedar and red earth. Medium-full bodied, nuances of red currants, cassis and cranberries are vibrant, unfolding vanilla, cardamom, cedar, along with red earth mineral. The structure is supported by fine-grained and silky tannin with a fine grip, elegantly presented, lingering with cedar and oak spices; along with a delicate acid tension shows focus and vitality, lends a long sustained finish. This is a stylish Merlot-Cabernet blend with red-fruited characters, complexing cedar and spices along an elegant silky tannin structure line" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Jan 2021

"Delicately aromatic and seamless red with floral, violet, blackcurrant bud, fresh herbs, raspberry, and spicy flavours. A backbone of fine, drying tannins suggests cellaring potential. 2020-2030" Bob Cambell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2020

"Lovely balance between the merlot's plum and its velvet softness, the power of the cabernet with a core of blackberry - both combined with scents of some cigar/tobacco and toast notes. On the palate flavours reflect the nose with a seamless transition to texture, firm tannins, ripe tannins and supple moments. Medium+ acidity. A complete wine with some powerful youthful textures and a core of fruit, violets and plums, blackberries and spices. Hand harvested and hand sorted, foot stomped and barrel for 21 months before release. Excellent drinking today - if decanted or best from 2022. 2030 wine" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2020

An elegant Merlot Cabernet blend which exhibits lifted aromatics of fragrant berry fruits, sweet French oak, and underlying lavender and thyme. Complex and textural, seamless tannins harmoniously support red and black fruits, earthiness, and spice. Tautly poised to develop beautifully with bottle age. Powerful, restrained and elegant, this blend exhibits lifted aromatics and berry fruits, revealing layers of complexity that will slowly unfold. Highly structured with balanced acidity and tannin, this wine will continue to evolve for the next decade.
