Description

  • Dark berry
  • Cake spice & vanilla
  • Roasted nut
  • Velvety mouthfeel

"This is sweetly fruited and beautifully lifted on the nose showing dark berry, cake spice, vanilla and roasted nut characters. It's equally satisfying on the palate, offering succulent fruit intensity combined with velvety texture and fine-grained tannins, making it flavoursome and immediately appealing" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Elegant, flavoursome primitivo that avoids being too unctuous or heavy. Vinous rather than fruity with savoury herb, floral, Christmas cake and vanilla flavours. A serious red that offers good value at this price" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review

"Primitivo, aka Zinfandel, aka Tribidrag, was originally from Croatia, but it seems to be at home in the searing summer heat of Italy’s deep south. This wine is a very accessible introduction to the variety, with its lifted, brambly fruit, some wild, sauvage characters, and curranty richness in the mouth. Some Primitivos can be excessively alcoholic, porty, or even over oaked, this is not, rather a juicy, fruit oriented version that will win over a lot of fans. Excellent winter red" Paul Tudor, Master of Wine

Primitivo is a dark-skinned grape known for producing inky, opulent, full-bodied, wines with ripe blueberry/black cherry characters with hints of Mediterranean vegetation and powerful but well-rounded tannins.

100% Primitivo vinified by world renowned vintners MGM/Mondo del Vino, a company at the forefront of environmental performance analysis, as well as being the first winery in Europe to embrace the EU green policy. MGM has 28 years of success as a wine exporter and has previously been awarded Best Wine Producer by Mundus Vini and Best Italian Wine Producer in the Austrian Wine Challenge. Puglia is Italy’s largest wine region by plantings, second in terms of production. The warm Mediterranean climate and sandy, loamy soil of the Itria Valley make it a grower’s paradise. Primitivo comes from the Latin “primativus” meaning “first to ripen” and it is one of the first grape varieties to be harvested in Italy. This variety arrived was officially recognized in Puglia in 1881 but had been in the region for hundreds of years and has Croatian parentage.

Food Pairing: It is a fantastic match for red meat and strong cheeses and offers more flavour for your dollar than virtually any other wine on the market.
