- Pleasing texture
"Certified organic, wild ferment, single vineyard and vegan friendly. 35% fermented in old puncheons. Malolactic fermentation in barrel with lees stirring. Winemaker, Clive Dougall, wanted to "turn the volume down." Quite a pleasing texture with floral, elderflower and citrus flavours supported by a backbone of slightly hard acidity and noticeable phenolics" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2019
"Certified organic, the 2020 vintage (4.5*) is a single-vineyard wine, partly (35 per cent) fermented in seasoned French oak puncheons. Bright, light yellow/green, it is medium to full-bodied, with strong, ripe tropical-fruit flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, and a dry finish. Drink now or cellar. The 2019 vintage (4.5*), harvested from 20-year-old vines, was also partly (35 per cent) barrel-fermented. Ripely scented, it is a fresh and lively, medium to full-bodied wine, with ripe, non-herbaceous flavours, showing excellent vigour and intensity" Michael Cooper, Buyer's Guide
Made from Certified Organic Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
Founded by Clive Dougall, who was Winemaker at Seresin Estate for 12 years, and Peter Lorimer, who promoted boutique New Zealand brands around the globe with his company the New Zealand Wine Portfolio, Deep Down is about honest wines forged with intuition and heart.
Deep Down is about trusting your gut feeling and intuition, and the name reflects the duo’s decision to do just that – to do what they believe in, knowing that working organically and ethically is the only way forward. Deep Down also speaks of geographical roots, deep down in the unique soils of a region known for its terroir, in a country known for its purity. These wines celebrate Marlborough’s diverse landscapes by working with three families on the following farms.
