Delicate with scented peach, nectarine, guava and floral characters. The palate is brilliantly balanced with fine persistent bubbles, ripe red berry and pear flavours with a crisp, refreshing finish. Perfect with summer salads, fresh sashimi and celebration brunches. Suitable for vegetarians, vegans and a gluten free diet.
The 2019 growing season in Marlborough was a hot and dry one. We received small amounts of rain around the end of December, but then no further rain until late February. These rain events had very little impact on soil moisture levels, but helped to replenish our rivers, setting us up nicely to see us through to harvest. Vintage started in mid-March and it provided us with incredibly stable weather. This meant we could pick blocks at their optimal ripeness.
The Pinot Gris parcels were harvested separately, pressed and cold settled for 72 hours. The clear juice was racked off and each parcel of juice was fermented separately, using selected yeast strains for Pinot Gris to enhance varietal character. A long, cool fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks to capture and enhance the fruit flavours of stone fruit and pear. The parcels were blended with 3.5% Merlot to give the pink hue, then stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
