Description

"I always feel like I've entered a vinous fairyland when I taste the wines made at Podere le Ripi. These are highly distinctive expressions that offer flurries of the unreal and unexpected. In the case of the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Cielo d'Ulisse, the aromas dart around like Tinker Bell touching on red cherry, raspberry, licorice, cola and grilled herb. Each one of those characteristics is suddenly made bright and alive as if by a magic wand. A new vineyard parcel was recently purchased on the eastern side of the Brunello appellation, and fruit for this wine comes from this new, biodynamic site" Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Feb 2018

"A new offering from coffee baron Francesco Illy's biodynamically farmed property in Castelnuovo dell'Abate. While the estate is known for particularly high density plantings (up to 62,500 vines per hectare), this represents a more standard 4,000. Aged entirely in large casks, it reveals a tangle of wild, sunbaked herbs, cherry and sandalwood. The tannins are smooth and sophisticated, with great depth of fruit to match and plenty of energy right through to the saline finish. Drinking Window 2019 - 2029" Decanter, Feb 2018

This wine is a classic Sangiovese style with a delicate garnet red color in the glass. On the nose typical expression of the large oak barrel, vibrant red fruits and brushwood notes. In the mouth fine quality tannins that support a well-balanced acidity. Very beautiful drinkability.

From the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG appellation in beautiful Tascany, the grapes are 100% Sangiovese. The vines are grown in schist and limestone soils. The grapes are harvested manually at the end of September, with fermentation and maceration for 20days in stainless steel tuns. The wine is aged for 36 months in oak barrels with a minimum ageing of 12 months in bottle.

Food Pairing: Matched well with a platter of beautifully aged cheeses, truffles and beef.
