"RIPE CHERRIES AND SPICE WITH FOREST FLOOR AROMAS"

"This West Auckland red is different to the floral, buoyant reds grown in the south – less overtly varietal, more savoury and ‘red-winey’. The 2008 vintage is lightish in colour, with earthy, ‘forest floor’ aromas. Mouthfilling and supple, it is cherryish, slightly spicy, earthy and nutty, with a smooth finish. It’s enjoyable now." Micheal Cooper

"The 2008 vintage was terrific and we achieved a beautiful ripeness in the Pinot Noir that is reflected in the wine. We now have 5 separate Pinot Noir sites and we selected one single site that stood out from the rest to bottle as Kumeu River Pinot Noir. The vineyard is situated on a... Read more »

lively berry fruit, dark cherries

There is a youthfulness about the aromatics. There is a lively berry fruit, dark cherries, and a delicious hint of raisin. The oak is not over powering and provides solid accompaniment to the fruit aromatics. On the palate the wine has all the youthful berry fruit which strengthens to a broad mid palate and the long finish has great oak integration. The tannins are slightly dusty on the finish. With time the fruit component will settle down.

A Full bodied Pinot, showing flavours of black cherries, Plum and Thyme

"Ruby red in colour with flashes of purple and a vibrant nose of dark berries, coffee and spice. A full bodied pinot, showing flavours of black cherries, plums and thyme. The fine tannins and ripe fruit flavours layer with balanced oak to give a velvety mouth feel and long compelling finish"- Winemakers Notes

The 2012 vintage was one that suited early ripening sites. Harvest in Martinborough was several weeks later than usual. Due to a cooler than average summer, flavours developed at lower brix than is normal. Long hang time for fruit on the vines produced grapes and wine of great balance at lower than usual alcohol and all the finesse and length that comes with

Central Otago Legend!

A very warm vintage has produced a Pinot Noir displaying perfumed ripeness with piercing clarity; dark fruits of the forest dominate the aroma and these are underpinned by lifted floral and spice notes. The wine has an aromatic front palate, which displays these same characters in abundance. The mid palate is elegant and precise, and the wine flows beautifully into a textural finish, framing fine-grained tannin, fruit and acidity.

Today Mt Difficulty Estate is comprised of six vineyards; Templars Hill, Pipeclay Terrace, Menzies Terrace, Mansons Farm, Target Gully and Long Gully – total plantings of 40 hectares protected by the rain shadow of Mount Difficulty in Bannockburn, Central Otago. These are balanced by the wine’s acidity and fruit, to produce a long fruit-driven finish.

It all began in the early 1990's, when the owners of five newly-planted vineyards in Bannockburn shook hands and decided to work... Read more »

"A fresh fruit driven style with ripe red berries that lead to an elegant complex finish"

Ripe red fruits of red cherries and red currents, followed by bright lifted aromas of raspberry. The nose is complex with spice and a hint of savoury oak.
Bright and lifted, with raspberry and red cherry combined with strawberry and red plum. Well balanced acidity leads to an inviting and structured mid palate with fine grained tannin and an elegant long-lasting finish. Winemakers Notes

Saint Clair Family Estate is owned by Neal and Judy Ibbotson, viticulture pioneers in Marlborough since 1978. Grapes were originally supplied to local wine companies; however a desire to extend the quality achieved in the vineyard through to the finished wine led to the establishment of Saint Clair Family Estate in... "a regional style of Pinot Noir that focuses on black plum and damp earth"

This wine suggests a regional style of Pinot Noir that focuses on black plum and damp earth. To borrow a well worn phrase, keen enthusiasts of Pinot Noir often say: ‘good Burgundy (Pinot Noir) smells of wet earth’. And so it is with this wine. Other nuances, could be compared to ‘mocca’ coffee or even chocolate.

The palate is generous for a Pinot Noir. Suppleness of tannins is one of Pinot Noirs strong points and this wine delivers on that score.

"A fruit driven, easy drinking Pinot Noir with a soft, round palate"

Kingfisher Bay is a glorious bay in the Port Underwood area of the Marlborough Sounds not far from Marlborough Valley’s Vineyards.

A fruit driven, easy drinking Pinot Noir with a soft, round palate, well-balanced acidity and flavours that linger. Ripe black currants, red cherries and black cherry dominate the palate. Well-balanced acidity and a fine powdered structure is followed by toasty oak and spice.

An ideal wine with red meat, pasta or Thai beef salad.

Commended : 2012 Decanter World Wine Awards

Aromatics of sweet dark plums with black berry fruit, subtle dried herbs and hints of chocolate give complexity and intrigue. Intense ripe fruit flavours abound on the palate, laced with complex savoury notes. The silky texture, refreshing acidity and fine tannins give this Pinot Noir distinction and balance.

Although the 2011 growing season started slowly, with a cooler and wetter than normal spring, the warm dry months prior to harvest ensured healthy grapes with flavour and phenolic ripeness without excessive sugar levels. The resulting wines have intense bright fruit flavours and balanced acidity and tannins.

Each parcel of Pinot Noir was cold soaked for 3-5... Read more »

"red cherry and spice"

4.5 STARS (91/100 POINTS): Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

91/100: Bob Campbell Wine Reviews

Deep red cherry in colour with a complex nose showing a mix of red and blue berry fruits, florals, fennel and subtle spice, cinammon and cigar box. The palate is is sensual up front with chalky tannins supporting red cherry and spice through the palate. Showing a delicate balance and length of flavour. Reflective of the 2011 vintage with savoury notes, making it a perfect match for venison, wild pork and goat. Will continue to open up over the next five years.

Our Pinot Noir was harvested at full ripeness with the grapes in healthy condition.  A small... Read more »

Bright acid and elegant, silky tannins

4 Stars: Cuisine Magazine , November 2012

“fabulous floral perfume is the introduction to a bright mouthful, alive with red cherry and tamarillo notes. This is a lighter, elegant style of pinot, underpinned by firm acidity” Cuisine Magazine – November 2012

Aromatic nose with red cherry, cranberry, plum and darker red fruit notes. Some attractive, savoury, “smoky bacon” and meaty complexity with hints of spice. Fleshy, mid-weight palate that is immediately approachable. Savoury meat and game flavours over cherry and plum fruit, contrasting nicely with background oak char. Hints
of smoke and spice provide some complexity. Bright acid and elegant,... Read more »

"DARK CHERRY, CHOCOLATE & PLUM...FULL AND PLUSH"

Dark cherry, dark chocolate, damson plum, and a heady potpourri of rose petal, vanilla and spice aromas lift from the glass, flow across the palate and on through to the long finish of this powerful 2011 Pinot Noir. Tannins are plentiful and fine, creating the full, plush, fleshy texture.

A warmer than average season has delivered excellent ripeness not only to the berries but also to grape stems and seeds, allowing us to include around 10% whole and intact bunches in the ferments. This technique chosen only in warm seasons allows a portion of ripe stem tannin to supplement the skin and seed tannins in bolstering a wine’s shape and structure. Still young and firm, this brooding pinot will continue to open and develop into a more savoury expression... Read more »

dark cherries and raspberries, with subtle oak characters

Careful barrel selection has resulted in this fine elegant Marlborough Pinot Noir. The aromatics are dark cherries and raspberries, with subtle oak characters. The palate entry is soft and warming and delivers the fruit along with a little spice to a mid intensity mid palate, finishing softly with velvet-like tannins. This wine is well structured and deserves at least 4 years cellaring!

Nobody has more experience growing grapes in Marlborough than Allan Scott. He planted some of the region's most famous vineyards, including the very first, and has worked the land there every vintage since. He physically helped plant the region's very first vineyard in 1973. Many of the vineyards he developed subsequently have gone on to win world recognition.... Read more »

herb, tobacco, and red fruits intertwine perfectly with the toast and spice of the oak

Notes of herb, tobacco, and red fruits intertwine perfectly with the toast and spice of the oak. This wine shows sweet fruit on entry, landing on a broad wide palate. Tannins sit firm in the mouth lingering long into the finish. A serious wine coming from the 1996 "Le Chat" and 1994 "Cairnmuir" vineyard plantings

All the vineyard are tended by hand, allowing for careful management of the individual vines from pruning, leaf plucking, shoot-thinning right through to harvesting. The wine is fermented in small open top fermenters and typically has a 5-7 day pre-ferment cold soak with punch downs throughout fermentation, followed by 5-7 days extended maceration. All parcels are carefully de-stemmed and... Read more »

"dark berryfruit and cherry flavours"

The Cellar Selection Pinot Noir has concentrated black cherry and dark berry aromas which follow through to the palate where dark berryfruit and cherry flavours are supported by soft tannins. This is a ripe and deeply coloured food wine, designed for early drinking but capable of cellaring for 3-5 years.

Fermented in closed top stainless steel tanks with gentle maceration to extract colour and tannins, the wine then completes malolactic fermentation prior to maturation in the cellar. It receives a light fining prior to bottling.

Pinot Noir is sourced from Sileni’s Hawke’s Bay vineyards with a range of soil types including gravels, silt and clay loam. The different characteristics of these sites provide depth and complexity of flavour in... Read more »

generously fruity

On release this wine has a bright ruby hue with aromas and flavours of raspberries, blackberries and black cherries, supported by hints of cinnamon, liquorice, wood-smoke, and barbecued meats. It is generously fruity in the mouth but has a spine of muscular ripe tannins which give it vibrancy and length

The grapes were grown on a mixture of clay and stony soils. Sufficient leaves were removed from around the bunches to ensure good exposure to sunlight to help ripening and to keep the fruit well ventilated and healthy.

We use traditional Burgundian winemaking methods. The fruit was picked in late April and the grapes, without the stems, were put into small fermenting vats, retaining as
many whole berries as possible. After several days of being kept cool, primary... Read more »

"dark ruby in colour and shows an aroma of dark cherries, plums and spice"

GOLD MEDAL: Royal Easter Show 2012

5 STARS: Decanter Magazine

The 2010 Nautilus Pinot Noir is dark ruby in colour and shows an aroma of dark cherries, plums and spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied with generous fruit sweetness and succulent tannins combining to give a long warm finish.

The 2010 growing season was characterised by a cool slow start but a warm dry finish. Low crops in two of our premium Pinot Noir vineyards with yields as low as 1kg per vine resulting in great flavour concentration. This is a carefully selected blend of hand... Read more »

"ripe black fruits with dark herb and spice notes"

18/20 Points: Raymond Chan, Wine Reviews

Martinborough, predominantly from company vineyards, the fruit given a cold soak and mostly indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 17 days on skins and aged 10 months in French oak. Dark, deep, black-hued red colour, lighter on rim. This has a tightly bound, but intense and penetrating nose of ripe black fruits with dark herb and spice notes as well as violet-like florals. Medium-full bodied, the flavours promise to unfold and reveal more with time. There are flavours of black fruits and florals, concentrated and densely packed, and supported by... Read more »

"Ripe Doris plum, fleshy sweet cherry pie, cranberry"

Ripe Doris plum, fleshy sweet cherry pie, cranberry, with wet rock undertones. Medium bodied, deliciously light yet intense expression of Pinot Noir prettiness. Very fleshy, fine, with charming texture and flow, lovely fresh strawberry, clean acidity, and dry sweet fennel.  Finish has a fine tryst of calcy tannins, but overall impression is elegance and silky beauty.

Active and careful vineyard management is vital for growing quality grapes. Good grapes make good wine. 2009 vintage presented us a long growing season allowing the fruit to ripen well and catch the best of the late autumn sun. Hawkshead Pinot Noir aged for 11 month in French oak barrels (40% new).

Vines have been grown in the Gibbston Valley, Central Otago since... Read more »

"an ethereal nature showing red berry fruits and red florals"

4 stars: Raymond Chan

"Light ruby-red colour with some purple hues.  The bouquet is elegant, quite tightly bound with an ethereal nature showing red berry fruits and red florals, underscored by some funky earth, mineral and minerally complexities.  Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours of black cherries, red berries and fresh herbs are tightly concentrated forming a good core to the palate line, and oaking is balanced and unobtrusive.  Fine-grained tannins show with some youthful firmness, and lead to a moderately sustained, dry finish with herb and minerally nuances.  This is a...
