"Upfront and beautifully fragrant on the nose with dark berry, spicy oak, vanilla and rich floral aromas, it’s flavoursome and juicy in the mouth displaying fleshy texture and silky tannins. Soothing and comforting. At its best: now to 2030" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2023

The 2021 Gnarly Head Shiraz from South Australia is a vibrant, fruit-forward wine with bright red berry aromas and subtle toasty oak. Ripe plum and red fruit flavors dominate the palate, enhanced by a touch of vanilla spice. This full-bodied Shiraz has soft, integrated tannins, offering a smooth mouthfeel and a lengthy finish with lingering oak influence.

This Shiraz wine introduces a daring departure for Gnarly Head Wines, venturing beyond California to the old and gnarly vineyards of South Australia. Inspired by the gnarled vines resembling wild bushes with twisted trunks and unruly branches, this 2021 Gnarly Head South Australia Shiraz embodies the essence of gnarly. Embark on a journey of boldness and adventure as we push boundaries and embrace the gnarly spirit.

All of the grapes picked for this wine underwent a careful crushing and destemming process. Fermentation on the skins lasted 7 to 8 days, with frequent pumping over to maximize flavor and tannin extraction. The desired yeast strains, Lallemand Rhone 2056 and Laffort RX60, were directly seeded. After fermentation, the wine was separated from gross lees through centrifugation and racked post-malolactic fermentation, capturing only light lees. Aging took place in stainless-steel tanks and seasoned barrels, resulting in a balanced integration of oak flavors

Food Pairing: This wine complements a range of dishes, from grilled lamb or beef tenderloin to roasted vegetables, tomato-based pasta, and aged cheddar or Gouda, elevating any dining experience.
