"Gorgeously ripe and inviting, the bouquet shows dark berry, mixed spice, cedar and rich floral aromas, leading to a succulent palate displaying supple texture and sturdy tannins. Generous and flavoursome, making it sumptuous and satisfying. At its best: now to 2028" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2023

"Named after the beautiful old Bush Vine Grenache vineyard owned by mates of mine in McLaren Vale. The Grenache component in this wine is hand picked to best preserve this glorious old vineyard. We have been taking fruit from this block for many years and it’s one of our favourites" Winemaker

The aroma is a complex blend of savoury spice, smoked meats, dark cherry and attractive oaky notes. After time in the glass, white pepper, licorice and spiced fruity notes come forward. A soft and savoury palate with warmth, length and finely textured tannins. A solid mid palate and balanced acidity provides weight and depth. An opulent wine that is developing nicely into a wine rack gem.

Significantly lower rainfall in the important growth stages leading up to vintage saw average yields down approximately 30% in McLaren Vale. Fluctuating temperatures in January and rainfalls in February resulted in a pause in vintage allowing ripening to occur at a more manageable rate. With the lower yields, our fruit had more time to ripen resulting in very good flavour concentration, acidity and structure.

Since establishing himself at Mt Hurtle winery in 1985 Geoff Merrill has achieved significant success at home and internationally. His elegant, subtle wines have culminated in major trophy wins including the coveted Jimmy Watson and The Wine Society Trophy. Geoff’s commitment to releasing wines to be enjoyed at the table has never wavered.

Food Pairing: Enjoy with sticky pork ribs, Angus beef burger, braised beef cheek, Barbacoa beef or smoked, Umami spiced mushrooms.
