Description

  • French oak
  • Red fruit
  • Vanilla
  • Silky mouthfeel

"Pure, ripe, fresh, varietal, complex and new. Aromas and flavours of ripe organic farmers market cherries and black currant fruits, there's a fine clay mineral quality and layers of barrel spice with vanilla and clove highlights. Equally pure and vibrant textures from chalky tannins and a sweet acid line, and ajudicious use of barrel all leading to a lengthy complex and softly smoky wood finish. Great drinking from 2024 through 2034+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier

"Aromas of white smoke, red cherries, bark & moss. Medium to full bodied with silky tannins and texture. Bright, sparkling acidity lifts upthe spiced & savoury palate. Dynamic. Seriously Tasty. Drink or Hold" James Suckling

Grapes for the 2021 F-Series Pinot Noir came from Eversley Vineyard in the Waihopai, Dry Hills Lane at the foot of the Wither Hills and Odyssey vineyard up the Wrekin Road. The soils here are a mixture of windblown loess over gravels and dense clay. The blend was essentially a selection of the best barrels from the sites above.

Hand harvest fruit was for the most part destemmed to open top fermenters. Some portions were fermented with whole bunches (10-100%) resulting in 20% average across the blend. Musts fermented spontaneously and were gently plunged once a day then pressed after averaging 25 days total time on skins. Elevage was in French barriques for 14 months, around 20% of which were new. Blended and bottled un-finned and unfiltered in June 2022.
