"Bold, richly-textured wine with intense peach, tree fruit, nutty oak, bready yeast lees, anise and spice flavours supported by mouth-watering acidity. A youthful and potentially quite complex and age-worthy chardonnay" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Feb 2022
"Aromas of ripe yellow fleshed fruits, a toasty barrel smoke and kitchen spice cupboard layer, some stony dry earth complexity and baked apple. Intriguing, youthful, vibrant and enticing. On the palate - not quite full-bodied, but a bold statement all the same with a core of roasted stone fruits and cashew nut oak flavours, fine wood tannins for texture and acidity adds a crisp feature. There’s a delicious core of flavour and harmony that tickles the taste buds into wanting more. A lovely example that will easily seduce Chardonnay fans on the first sip. Best drinking from 2022 through 2028" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Dec 2021
2020 was a spectacular vintage for Hawke’s Bay and this Chardonnay shows greatness of the vintage. Ripe, full fruit and complexity perfectly balanced with the oak influence results in a classic, tight Chardonnay, moderately restrained in its youth but with time it will open up to rich, food friendly wine. This wine is ready to drink on release and will continue to develop positively for 6 – 8 years.
A single vineyard Chardonnay from Trelinnoe (tree-lin-o) Vineyard on Roys Hill named for the owner’s historical ties to Cornwall. Trelinnoe Vineyard Chardonnay is a part of our project to highlight some of the most unique, small, single vineyards in Hawke’s Bay. The Roys Hill hillside terraces are sandstone over limestone and are planted with clone UCD15 Chardonnay.
The fruit was 100% hand-picked, then whole bunch pressed to French oak barriques for fermentation. As with all of our Chardonnays, the Trelinnoe Chardonnay was fermented with indigenous yeast. The wine spent 11 months in oak prior to bottling; there was no fining or cold stabilisation. There are no additives other than sulphur.
