"This is immensely appealing on the nose showing passionfruit, rockmelon, kiwifruit and lime peel aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that is punchy and flavoursome. The wine delivers terrific fruit purity and intensity, together with fine texture and bright acidity, finishing impressively long and delicious. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jul 2019
This Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is fantastically fruited, with intense aromatic notes on the nose consisting of passionfruit, kiwi fruit, feijoa and musk characters. These tones are followed by a juicy and lively concentrated palate. The wine offers terrific fruit power backed by refreshing acidity, making it immensely enjoyable from now until 2022.
The 2019 vintage will be remembered as one of the warmest on record with harvest starting roughly 10 days earlier thatn the long term average. With healthy vines and strong canopies, the warm weather did not impact the harvest quality, simply an unprecedented early season. Sugar levels accumulated quickly in the warm weather and the parcels ripended at different times, so "picking on flavour was key" said winemaker Tim Adams.
Like many of the Marlborough producers, poor flowering in general aroudn the valley resulted in a lower crop, in most cases. Fortunately, Toi Toi's regional diversity and well timed harvest minimised the impact and resulted in exceptional flavour of fruit. Grapes were picked when the flavours were at optimum, to ensure the preservation of the fruit flavours. A select de-stemmer harvester was used to softly handle the fruit. Once pressed off skins, the juice was then fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks with selected yeast strains to preserve the inherent delicate fruit flavours.
Food Pairing: Pair this citrusy goodness with a tomato and cilantro marinated chicken shashlik.
