"The Preservative Free wines are getting better and better all-round as winemakers are taking them more seriously. Hero of Zero draws fruit from premium South Australian regions, with this wine coming out of the Barossa and McLaren Vale. It is beautifully bright and fresh, and Grenache in its most user-friendly style. It is a riot of fruits from strawberry and raspberry through to crunchy cranberry with a touch of pretty spice on top. The palate is then supple, mid-weight, and fruit-forward so it is an easy-drinking, dry style with a touch of tannins that give just enough backbone without taking away from the wine’s superb drinkability. There is even some decent length to finish too making this a good example of the Preservative Free style, and one that would suit a little chill to enjoy on a hot Summer’s day" Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot, Sep 2020
"Gorgeously youthful and perfumed, the sweetly expressed bouquet shows blueberry, raspberry, floral and subtle spice aromas, followed by an elegantly weighted palate that's silky and flowing. Juicy and attractively styled. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2020
A textbook Grenache but without any preservatives which means it’s imbued with vibrant fruit flavours and a sense of vitality on the palate. The nose kicks off with freshly picked red fruits and slight earthiness. The palate delivers a wave of raspberry and gentle spice notes complemented by a soft palate weight that makes it eminently drinkable.
2020 had its challenges with a dry start and only a small portion of rain and with much of the country suffering drought conditions. The warm dry spell continued in December with some extreme hot temperature days recorded. Thankfully due to one of the coolest January’s on record the vines were able to re-address the balance. It was a late ripening year and yields were down but despite the challenges it will be another excellent vintage across South Australia.
Healthy and problem free fruit is selected in the vineyard and then picked in the cool of the night and then rushed to the nearby winery for a fast and focused vinification. Fermentation is cool in a closed static fermenter before a short maturation on lees and bottling.
The Hero of Zero wines are hand-crafted from the best quality fruit sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, including McLaren Vale and the Barossa. With meticulous handling in the vineyard and winery, the pristine fruit will have less exposure to anything harmful that may normally require the addition of preservatives. Our wines are crafted to be brightly coloured, exotically fragrant, full-flavoured and critically, they sing without the addition of preservatives. Perfectly suited to many cuisines, these wines are also crafted to ensure they are suitable for Vegans.
Food Pairing: There’s a brisk acidity on the finish making for a great medium weighted wine that’s suited to a variety of meat dishes.
