"Attractively ripe and beautifully lifted, the bouquet shows mango, lychee, rich floral and subtle spice aromas, leading to a flavoursome palate offering juicy fruit intensity combined with smooth mouthfeel and refreshing acidity. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2022
The 2021 Gewürztraminer shows floral notes on the nose of lychee and Turkish delight. The palate is rich with white peach and citrus characters. Full bodied with a dry finish.
At the start of the growing season, we had several frost events affecting isolated areas in Marlborough. During flowering there was a cold spell of weather, which had a significant effect on the region’s fruit set. While this affects the yield, it can help promote concentration of aromas and flavors in the grapes. Mild summer conditions help with even ripening of the grapes which allowed perfect conditions to pick at optimum ripeness.
Gewürztraminer grapes were machine harvested, gently destemmed, and crushed. It was important to retain the balance in this wine, and to protect those aromas our handling was kept to a minimum, and we employed protective anaerobic techniques in our wine-making. Following cold settling the resultant juice was filtered prior to a long cool fermentation using neutral yeast.
