Lawson's Dry Hills The Pioneer Marlborough Gewürztraminer 2016

Haunting, unwavering & highly desirable

Haunting, unwavering & highly desirable
Description
"Picked with a lot of shrival and a little botrytis, both of which add richness to the wine. Once picked the grapes were gently pressed to French oak barriques and fermented with wild yeast. Fermentation took several months and we stopped it when we felt the wine had acheived optimal balance" Marcus Wright & Rebecca Wiffen, Winemakers
From thirty five year old vines with trunks as thick as thighs, this unique wine embraces everything that is so good about Gewürztraminer. Hugely aromatic with a pronounced and pungent perfume, the ensuring palate is rich, weighty and oily with intense, lingering flavours of exotic fruits and spices. Haunting, unwavering and highly desirable.
From the Home Block vineyard around the Lawson's Dry Hills winery on Alabama Road where the oldest vines were planted in the early 1980's. These unirrigated vines are deeply rooted in clay soils which help to give the wine weight and body.
Initially created to acknowledge founder, Ross Lawson’s pioneering spirit, this range of wines embraces the more innovative side of winemaking. Only produced in outstanding years, small parcels of fruit are identified in these vineyards and carefully treated to a number of special techniques. These techniques are designed to enhance each parcel’s particular attributes, resulting in wines that are a real statement. In addition to outstanding aromatics and flavour, there is a strong focus on texture, delivering wines that not only smell and taste incredible, but leave a lasting impression from their rich mouth-feel.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with rich soft cheeses, Stilton, pork with sautéed apples or just by itself.
