Fruit for the 2018 Reserve Pinot Noir comes from a selection of premium vineyard sites throughout Marlborough. Upon arrival the fruit is cold soaked for 3-5 days to extract the desired flavours, tannins and colour. Fermentation followed, in a selection of small open top tanks, using a selection of yeasts. The wine was plunged two to three times a day to extract colour and tannins from the skins. Select parcels were then allowed to macerate, further extracting colour and flavours after fermentation, for a further two to five days. After gently pressing the liquid off skins, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the palate and was then aged with a combination of French and Hungarian Oak.

"The winemaking results in a softer, juicier Shiraz, with more subtle tannins than is typical from our Estate grown range. Aged in French oak for 12 months, this is a balanced and very drinkable style" Winemaker
2017 Redstone shows vibrant mulberry, dark cherry, and sweet floral notes upfront and becomes very lifted and even more aromatic after some time in glass with red fruits showing through. The palate is bright and vibrant with some lovely fine tannin lending just the right amount of grip, displaying floral and red fruited notes, along with savoury, earthy characters. This wine is extraordiary value for money.
The Winter and Spring of 2016 was one of the wettest on record which delayed flowering. By early summer we had some periods of good warm weather which encouraged growth but vintage was still looking a month behind 2016 and more in line with an old-fashioned vintage. Several rainfall events in January further delayed vintage and had the vineyard team working hard. Thankfully the warm and dry weather returned and the harvest proceeded at a leisurely and relaxed pace allowing a long ripening time for maximum flavour development. The wines look outstanding.
