An absolutely gorgeous, everyday wine
Vinous
Description
- French oak
- Dark plum & blackberry
- Ripe red fruit
- Full-bodied
"Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Marjosse opens with tar, forest floor and tilled soil scents with a core of black plums and blackberries plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a lively backbone and pretty red fruit accents coming through on the finish" Wine Advocate, Dec 2018
"The 2016 Marjosse is an absolutely gorgeous, everyday wine from Pierre Lurton's home estate. Tobacco, cedar, mint and dried flowers add an attractive savory quality to this delicious, affordable, no-frills Bordeaux" Vinous, Jan 2019
Hailing from the personal estate of Pierre Lurton, Director of Château Cheval-Blanc and Château d’Yquem, Château Marjosse is a well-made, easy drinking red wine. Dark and dense in colour, with lovely depth. The enticing nose offers notes of licorice, and perfectly ripe red and black fruits (cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant). Utterly charming on the palate, with lovely fruit, fine balance, and an ample frame. The finish is long, rich, and fruity, as is so typical of its terroir.
This estate, located in Entre-deux-Mers, benefits from outstanding soil. Astéries limestone, which is identical to that of the Saint-Emilion plateau, forms outcrops here. The clay-limestone soil and subsoil, particularly well-suited to the production of great red wines and the cultivation of Merlot, also serve in production of the appellation’s inimitable white vintage. Blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec; aged in barrel (50% new) for 12 months.
