Plump & fresh
Cameron Douglas, MS
Description
Boysenberry, Floral, Oak
"Blackberry and black olive, dry earth and blackberry, violets, and a fine savoury wood quality. On the palate, a firm, dry wine with texture and core fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. The fleshy mouthfeel comes from a combination of polished tannins and red berry flavours, supported by acidity. Plump and fresh" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
Wonderfully expressive and beautifully scented bouquet, light-medium bodied with red plums, boysenberry and violet tones. French oak imparts vanilla and toffee. A lovely expression of the variety offering elegant drinkability. Can be served slightly chilled.
Pioneers of aviation landed on circular airfields allowing them to land into the most favourable wind vector from whichever direction it came.
Since 1989, Alpha Domus has been dedicated to creating wines with exceptional craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to quality. A small independent New Zealand owned winery, the name 'Alpha' is derived from our founders, while 'Domus,' from Latin, represents home.
Full organic certification further enhances the wines. We work in harmony with nature encouraging biodiversity in the vineyard using naturally derived materials to nourish soil fertility and manage disease. Health is built from the ground up with biologically active soils nurturing robust vines and fruit, improving wine quality and complexity from healthy organic fruit.
Grapes were picked in two passes from our estate organic vineyard to obtain a range of ripeness levels and to add complexity. The 2023 vintage had its challenges, but we were able to pick Cabernet Franc grapes with exceptional flavour and balanced acidity.
A blend of two individual parcels of Cabernet Franc from the vineyard, each parcel fermented, then matured in barrel separately. Fruit from heavily leaf plucked vines contribute depth and richness to the wine, while fruit from bigger canopy vines give vibrancy and beautiful aroma. Warm fermentation temperatures up to 28˚C and extended skin contact maximise texture, weight and complexity. Individual barrels were selected for this wine based on quality of texture and tannins, but above all freshness of fruit flavour and aroma.
Food Pairing: Soft supple tannins and a lingering finish make this an excellent food wine, suited to those casual pizza and pasta dinners.
