A Taste of Tuscany Collection (Italy) (Twin Pack)

A brilliant introduction to Chianti

A brilliant introduction to Chianti
Description
Winemaking in Tuscany dates back to Etruscan times. In the modern era, Tuscany was the region where Italy’s wine renaissance began with more emphasis on finding the best sites and celebrating the indigenous grape varieties that flourish in the region. Think of Tuscany, you think of Chianti and the Sangiovese grape. Sangiovese produces wines that hint at cherries and dark red fruits, with a savoury character which means the wines are perhaps the perfect ‘food wines’. Cook your favourite Italian meal and it will taste better with a bottle of Chianti!
We have put together a classic 2 bottle pack that is a brilliant introduction to this region and its wines. This mix contains a bottle of Chainti Classico from Rocca Di Montegrossi which is an absolute benchmark from the region. The second bottle is a very special and rare bottle of Chainti Classico Riserva from one of the greatest estates in Italy - Castello di Volpaia
Collection includes:
1 x Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018 (Italy)
AWARDED 99/100 POINTS: Luca Gardini, 2021
AWARDED 95/100 POINTS: Jamie Goode, The Wine Anorak, 2021
AWARDED 93/100 POINTS: Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media, 2021
AWARDED 93/100 POINTS: Decanter Magazine 2021
AWARDED 17/20 POINTS: Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine, 2020
"Floral, spicy and beguiling on the nose with sweetly aromatic cherry fruit and also some refined, exotic spiciness. The palate is supple and fine with lovely freshness and elegance as well as a lot of structure and ripe sweet cherry and berry fruits. Fresh, spicy, complex and delicious" Jamie Goode, The Wine Anorak, 2021
"Produced since 1967, Volpaia’s Riserva is a selection of bunches from throughout the estate’s 43 hectares in the township of Radda. Due to the slow start in 2018, harvest began a few days later than average, taking place during the first two weeks of October. With purity and precision, strawberry, tobacco, vanilla and forest earth emerge from the glass. This is well-proportioned and balanced in ripeness with a core of concentrated red cherry. Fresh acidity props it up and smooth, rounded tannins frame the whole" Decanter Magazine 2021
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva is fabulous. There are more 'important' wines in the range, but the Riserva delivers superb quality for the money. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and cloves show a darker side of Sangiovese that is quite attractive. Ample and virile in feel, the 2018 has the stuffing to develop well for many years to come" Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media, 2021
An iconic wine that the Mascheroni Stianti family have been producing since 1967, when only very few producers used to produce a Chianti Classico Riserva. It’s produced with 100% of Sangiovese coming from some of the highest vineyards of the Chianti. The unique microclimate and the soil composition of “macigno Toscano” donate to this Sangiovese some of its outstanding complexity and elegance.

1 x Rocca Di Montegrossi Chianti Classico DOCG 2019 (Italy)
AWARDED GOLD MEDAL: Gilbert & Gaillard 2020
AWARDED 17.5/20 POINTS: Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine, 2021
AWARDED 93/100 POINTS: Doctor Wine 2021
AWARDED 93/100 POINTS: winescritic.com, 2021
AWARDED 92/100 POINTS: Decanter Magazine 2021
AWARDED 5 STARS: Wine Align 2021
"Owner Marco Ricasoli recalls the harvest of 2019 as unusually calm – one of the few in which he didn’t have to base his picking strategy on the weather forecast. While his wines never lack freshness, the 2019 is positively racy! Scents of blackberry and fennel are interlaced with smoke, and the palate brings together brambly fruit with fleshy red plum. This is mouthfilling and clean, with ripe, smooth tannins that are chalky textured - plus all of that vibrant acidity" Decanter Magazine 2021
"Mid ruby. Deep cherry nose with a peppery tingle and with a hint of candied orange. Lifted, ripe cherry fruit palate that is a little vibrant and with finely ground tannins. Cranberry, raspberry and sour-cherry finish. Long and refreshing" Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine, 2021
Rocca di Montegrossi’s Chianti Classico is the estate’s flagship wine; it is a blend of about 90% Sangiovese, with Canaiolo and Colorino, and is produced every year. It ages mainly in large casks and barrels made with oak from Allier, for 12-14 months. It is unfiltered, and after bottling it ages another 6 months prior to release. In the glass it is lively ruby, with bright violet reflections, and on the nose displays the rich fruity aromas typical of the varietals, particularly forest berry fruit and sour cherries. On the palate it’s harmonious and well structured, with nice tannins and savoury accents; it will easily age for 7-10 years.
