Supple & juicy with soft tannins
Description
- French oak
- Ripe berries
- Savoury spice
- Soft tannins
Lifted notes of cherries and ripe berries with toasty aromas and savoury spice. The juicy, red fruit flavours lead into a supple palate, with soft tannins. Enjoy now, or cellar up to 4 years.
Winemakers were incredibly lucky to be able to continue to create these wines during the global pandemic crisis. For this reason, the 2020 wines carry some very unique memories. The 2020 growing season was very dry, which meant disease pressure was low and some timely light rains kept just enough water flowing in the rivers. A classic Marlborough Autumn with warm days and cool nights, which created this season’s wines with the Yealands signature fresh natural acidity and intense fruit flavours. Vintage started in late-March and it provided incredibly stable weather. This meant blocks could be picked at their optimum ripeness, resulting in well balanced Pinot Noir parcels, showing characters full of flavour and lovely weight.
Low yielding Pinot Noir blocks were harvested at optimum ripeness. Individual parcels were kept separate and inoculated with selected yeasts. A fast, hot fermentation proceeded with delicate plunging to craft a wine with elegance and balance. After a short period of post ferment maceration to achieve the desired tannin balance, the parcels were gently pressed. The wine was aged with French oak while undergoing malolactic fermentation. It was then blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
Food Pairing: Beautifully matched with lamb, venison or tomato based pasta. Suitable for vegetarians, vegans and a gluten free diet.
