Plum, Raspberry, Spice

Initially subtle when poured, the aromas awaken with a little time in the glass. Red cherry sits at the core, supported by milk chocolate and dried herb notes reminiscent of herbes de Provence. Blueberry and damson plum emerge, alongside a gentle violet perfume. An underlying earthiness, evocative of rain on soil, adds complexity, with a subtle hint of coriander. The palate is refined and moreish. Delicious bright red fruit flavours are balanced with natural acidity. The finish is savoury and refreshing.

Established by Samuel Smith in 1849 in the Barossa, Yalumba has flourished under six generations and over 175 years of family ownership. The values and traditions of the Hill-Smith family, passed down through generations, have cultivated a sense of unity amidst diversity, inviting wine enthusiasts into a realm of delight and appreciation.

Winter and spring rainfalls were below average. January and February experienced consistently warm days and cool nights, creating ideal conditions for even ripening. This allowed the grapes to mature with excellent concentration and natural acidity. Warm, dry weather led to an early harvest with exceptional fruit quality.

Made from a collection of gnarled old bush vines with an average vine age of 75 years. These vineyards produce small quantities of fruit with a high concentration of flavours. A range of terroir can be seen across the different vineyards, from sandy soils to sandy loam to red-brown earth over red clay. Each parcel of fruit has individuality, creating intriguing complexity.

Food Pairing: Peking duck with pancakes, hoisin and cucumber or charred beetroot with garlic, coriander seed and tahini.
