Description

Plum, Raspberry, Spice

"Charming and elegantly perfumed, the bouquet shows sweet plum, raspberry, violet and warm spice aromas. The palate displays silky-smooth mouthfeel combined with fleshy texture and finely melded tannins, finishing lingering and velvety" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2024

"Medium ruby-red, even colour throughout. The nose is gently full, with aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, bramble, floral and anise. Medium-full bodied, aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry and blueberry intertwined with sweet floral and a touch of anise and spice. Juicy acidity flows smoothly on a silky palate, unfolding subtle spices and lends a long, graceful finish. This old bush vine Grenache is elegant with unmistakable varietal characters, silky mouthfeel and strength" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Dec 2024

"Mid-ruby with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant fruits cut with gingery spice, pressed purple flowers, dried orange rind, exotic spice and earth. Plenty of space and spicy detail on the palate with billowing, powdery tannins and a sprightly mineral line. Super value here" Halliday Wine Companion, Oct 2024

"A softer, elegant bouquet with a satin frame aromas of plums and red flowers, there’s a touch of fruit spice and cherry then a layer of stone and clay earthy qualities. Oak is low to zero on the nose. A dry wine touches the palate with fine tannins, core of red fruits flavours and accentuated by the acid line. Balanced, well made and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2030" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Nov 2024

Deep in colour with a bright garnet hue. This fruit dominant wine opens with lively cherry, raspberry and red forest fruits layered over floral rose notes. Time in the glass reveals intriguing aromas of Mediterranean herbs, nettle and anise. Medium-bodied and juicy with superb balance between fruit and spice offering freshness and softness with an underlying power supported by mouth-coating tannins.

Established by Samuel Smith in 1849 in the Barossa, Yalumba has flourished under six generations and 175 years of family ownership. The values and traditions of the Hill-Smith family, passed down through generations, have cultivated a sense of unity amidst diversity, inviting wine enthusiasts into a realm of delight and appreciation.

Made from a collection of gnarled old bush vines planted between 1929 - 1974. These vineyards produce small quantities of fruit with a high concentration of flavours. A range of terroir can be seen across the different vineyards, from sandy soils to sandy loam to red-brown earth over red clay. Each parcel of fruit has individuality, creating intriguing complexity.

Wet soils from abundant spring rainfall, combined with cooler than average temperatures in September and October, delayed the growing season by several weeks. Windy conditions during flowering resulted in lower fruit set at some of the vineyards. Summer was relatively mild, therefore harvest commenced several weeks later than a typical season. The grapes thrived in these conditions to produce an elegantly restrained wine with character and charm.

Food Pairing: This wine was made to be paired with food. It pairs exceptionally well with a brown mushroom steak drizzled with truffle oil and served over a bed of pesto sauce.
