Description
Cherry, Oak, Plum
"Immensely complex and alluring, the bouquet shows sweet berry, thyme, smoked game, porcini, and cedar characters. The concentrated palate offers outstanding weight and depth, wonderfully framed by plush texture and beautifully melded tannins, finishing persistent and sophisticated. At its best: now to 2035" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2025
"Moderately dark ruby, even colour throughout. The nose is gently full, with aromas of raspberry, black cherry, brown mushroom, spice and savoury meatiness. Medium-full bodied, aromas of raspberry and black cherry entwined with dried thyme, liquorice, mushroom, black pepper, cinnamon and cured meat. The wine is complex, with a wide range of flavours and savoury developments. Softened powdery tannin framed the ripe fruit, and enlivening acidity carried spice to an elegant, sustained finish. This 5-year-old Pinot Noir is developing gracefully, with savoury complexity and an enticing acid line" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Mar 2025
"A complex and intriguing bouquet with layers of spice and drying red berry fruits, strawberry and plum. The baking spice voice is clear with clove and cinnamon then a layer of wood smoke. Dry and delicious on the palate with layers of textures and flavours from baking spice to red berry fruits, plum and strawberry compote. Firm tannins and acidity frame the palate with texture, mouthfeel and style. The fruit flavours follow-through seamlessly presenting a wine ready to drink or age further. Best from 2027 through 2034+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Apr 2025
Cromwell’s Wooing Tree, is a family owned single vineyard site, located in the heart of Central Otago, the wine region fast becoming known for its top quality Pinot Noir. For many thousands of years Cromwell has been subjected to sandstorms during strong NW winds. Wind blown sands form Cromwell’s unique habitat as one of the only inland sand dunes in New Zealand. The development of Wooing Tree vineyard created a few sandstorms of its own. Especially low yielding ripe hand picked fruit, gentle winemaking and extended maturation in French oak have resulted in a complex and powerful wine. It has a perfumed nose of dark plums and berries, black forrest gateau and caramel show on the palate. A great example of one of the best Central Otago Pinot Noirs – Best rewards are gained by careful cellaring.
