"Revealing good delicacy and richness, this very youthful wine was grown at Queensberry (62%) and Alexandra (38%), and partly (42%) fermented in old barrels. Bright, light lemon/green, it is fresh and full-bodied, with vigorous pear, lychee and spice flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, balanced acidity and a basically dry finish" Michael Cooper, Winestate Magazine, Sep 2022
"Stylish and immediately appealing, the bouquet shows rockmelon, poached pear, jasmine and subtle spice aromas, leading to an elegantly flavoursome palate that's juicy and smooth. It's beautifully harmonious and finely layered with textured mouthfeel, finishing long and comforting. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2022
"Very attractive bouquet filled with scents of fresh green and brown pears, a light floral quality, apple and a sweet quince laced with white spice. On the palate there’s a layer of spice trapped in a coarse silk texture then flavours of white fleshed fruits, mineral and all carried on the back of a sweet acid line. Balanced, well made and ready to drink from 2022 through 2026" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2022
"Bright, even, pale straw yellow. The nose is softly full, packed with aromas of Nashi pear, pear drop and quince with a suggestion of honey, blossom and spice. Medium-bodied, dry-ish to taste, aromas of Nashi pear, quince and apple interweave blossom and a fine dusting of five-spice. The fruit is intense and succulent with salivating acidity; powdery phenolics add texture. This Pinot Gris is juicy, mouth-watering and fine-textured. Match with Vietnamese spring rolls and fish curry over the next 3+ years" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, Sep 2022
This Pinot Gris has delicious aromas of nashi pear, mandarin peel, fresh lime, white peach and sea salt. This vintage has tremendous energy with flavours of bright citrus, pear and apple, with great length and an “electric” finish. Made with food pairing in mind, this Pinot Gris is deceptively complex and a good candidate for cellaring for up to 10 years.
The 2021-2022 growing season was relatively warm overall with a mild start to Spring followed by good weather at flowering resulting in excellent yields. The rain events in Spring and in February were welcomed and frost wasn’t an issue. Lower acids at lower brix allowed us to pick when we desired to achieve a dry-style Pinot Gris that has great texture and balance.
The Pinot Gris grapes that created this beautiful wine came from established vineyards in Queensbury (62%) and Alexandra (38%). Each block was harvested at optimal ripeness in April in order to achieve a wine with aromatic freshness and a rich texture. The wine was fermented in 42% neutral oak barrels with the remainder in a stainless steel tank. This combination of vessels achieved noteworthy freshness as well as a creamy texture.
