Villa Maria Cellar Selection Marlborough Pinot Gris 2023

Deliciously creamy with delicate acidity

Deliciously creamy with delicate acidity
Description
Dry, Oak, Spice
Our Cellar Selection Pinot Gris 2023 has fragrant aromatics of florals, exotic fruits and baking spices, such as vanilla and cinnamon. The palate has rich fruit flavours of ripe pears, nectarine and peach intermingled with savoury spices. This wine offers a complex creamy texture with a delicate refreshing acidity on the finish.
The fruit for this wine was sourced from the sheltered river terraced vineyards in the Awatere Valley of Marlborough.
The Marlborough growing season started off well with very little frost pressure during spring, a rainy winter provided healthy soil moisture levels, so the canopies looked lush and vibrant. The summer of 2023 was mild with intermitted rainfall, however during autumn the weather settled and provided us with beautiful blue skies, warm days and perfect weather conditions for harvest.
The fruit was harvested in cool night-time temperatures to enhance aromatics, then fermented with aromatic and textural yeast strains. Fermentation was done primarily in stainless steel tanks, with a small portion fermented with indigenous yeast in old French oak barrels. The wine matured on its yeast lees for a closely monitored period of time to develop a complex creamy texture, before blending, finishing and bottling whilst still youthful to enhance freshness.
