Two Paddocks Central Otago Dry Riesling 2025
A thought provoking expression
A thought provoking expression
Description
Dry, Floral, Lime
Jasmine, lime and oyster shell aromatics lead to a richly textured mouthfeel showing vibrancy, tension and drive.

An estate grown, single block selection made from grapes grown at Two Paddocks’ Red Bank Vineyard in Alexandra, Central Otago, our Dry Riesling is a thought provoking expression of this location.
At the start of the 2024 growing season there was above average early rainfall and two large snow events in mid-September and late October, which resulted in a slow start to spring growth as the soil was still too cool. Then a very late frost on the 3 November caused some damage at The Fusilier Vineyard, Bannockburn and The First Paddock, Gibbston, but thankfully there was no damage on the two Alexandra vineyards and counter-intuitively, overall average spring 2024 temperatures were above 2023 and sat in the middle range. Optimum flowering and fruit-set was achieved in December and then warm settled late summer weather saw perfect conditions for ripening.
Crafted from a tiny half-hectare block of clone 110 at Two Paddocks Red Bank Vineyard at Earnscleugh, Central Otago, which consistently produces the ripest and most intense riesling on the estate. All grapes are grown using organic principles and are hand harvested. The soils in this block are well draining schist loam and the vines tend to thrive. Additionally, the hot day time temperatures that Alexandra experiences over summer encourages riper stone fruit flavours, until late afternoon when the ‘Roxburgh Doctor’ wind arrives causing a dramatic drop in temperature and hence the significantly cooler nights that the region is known for.
Food Pairing: A balance of freshness and texture means it is the perfect counter-balance to a creamy pasta dish like carbonara, or the rich saltiness of fresh oysters and holds its own against spicy Asian dishes.
