Lychees, apples and pears on the nose with a touch of dark spice. A steely texture makes way for classical Pinot Gris flavours of fresh apples and pears. Rich and textural through the palate and just a hint of fresh nutmeg on the finish.

This Pinot Gris comes from a blend of grapes from two distinctly different areas in Hawkes Bay. The majority of the blend is from vines planted in the 2000’s at Mangatahi in Hawke’s Bay. The vineyard is situated on the ancient alluvial shingle terraces high above the Ngaruroro River. As one of the most elevated vineyards in Hawke's Bay, its north facing slopes enjoy long and hot summer days but chill off overnight making this the perfect conditions for aromatic whites. The balance comes from our Millar Rd block in the hills overlooking Te Awanga. With north facing, limestone rich soils and a cooler season due to its elevation and proximity to the sea, this portion brings weight, complexity and a pithy structure to the wine.

Hand picked and whole bunch pressed, the 2021 Wildsong Pinot Gris was 100% fermented in stainless steel tanks. Fermented cold to ensure the retention of aromatics, the wine was stopped dry at 4g/L. Left on lees and stirred weekly for five months to develop texture and increase complexity before being bottled un-fined.

Wildsong wines are uncomplicated and grounded with a gentle tale or two to tell of the soil they were grown in and the people who made them. Grown with respect, made with heart and packed with attitude. There’s a little Wildsong in each of us.
