Te Awanga Wildsong Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2022 (Volare Black Room)
Punch, textural & fresh
Punch, textural & fresh
Description
- Unoaked
- Lychee & citrus
- Toasted nuts
- Textural finish
Punchy stonefruit with lychee and lifted floral notes on the nose. A weighted palate with loads of citrus and baked stonefruit. Floral notes can also be found mid palate with just a hint of toasted nuts. A textural finish that is fresh and sustained.
The 2022 Wildsong Chardonnay comes from a vineyard at Mangatahi at the base of the Ruahine Ranges on one of the highest wine growing areas in Hawke’s Bay. Planted on ancient river terraces that were formed by the Ngaruroro River, greywacke, deep shingle and volcanic ash make up the soil profile, while long warm days and cool nights define the wines and bring freshness and an intense flavour profile.
Grapes were harvested early in the morning, gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel to maximise fruit purity and intensity. A cool ferment and a couple of months resting on yeast lees before the wine was prepared for bottling has helped create a rich palate and a little more complexity.
Wildsong wines are uncomplicated and grounded with a gentle tale or two to tell of the soil they were grown in and the people who made them. Grown with respect, made with heart and packed with attitude. There’s a little Wildsong in each of us.
