Stone Bay South Island Pinot Noir 2023
All the characteristics of a classic Pinot Noir
All the characteristics of a classic Pinot Noir
Description
Cherry, Oak, Spice
In the glass, it presents a luminous ruby hue. Aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and redcurrant are layered with hints of rose petal, dried herbs, and a subtle undercurrent of earthy spice. On the palate, the wine is silky and elegant, with juicy acidity and fine-grained tannins providing lift and length. Notes of ripe redberries are complemented by savoury elements—forest floor, a touch of clove, and gentle oak seasoning.
Stone Bay isn’t just a place, it’s a celebration of New Zealand’s diverse and awe-inspiring landscapes. While golden sand beaches often steal the spotlight, we find our inspiration in the rugged, dramatic “stone bays” that define our coastline. These rocky shores, with their breathtaking sunsets and untamed beauty, are the heart and soul of Stone Bay.
Sourced from Premium South Island Pinot Noir vineyards the 2023 vintage was another excellent year for Pinot Noir production. Starting with a warm spring, it continued on through a long, hot and very dry summer and autumn resulting in superb, clean, ripe fruit packed with intense flavours. Parcels of fruit were picked over a two week period from late March to early April when the fruit was at the peak of flavour and phenolic ripeness. Throughout fermentation plunging occurred twice daily and was tapered off to once daily as the fermentation finished. A portion young wine was drained to French barriques with the balance going to stainless steel tanks for ageing.
