Description

Oak, Plum, Spice

Violet but not violent purple-red. An aromatic mixture of the redolent, the rustic, and the ripe. Blackberry and earth, with tobacco and red berries. Then a bouquet that quietly announces nutmeg, spice and oak’s faintest regard. Here one finds a combination of the mixed fruit’s lushness, the background acidity of shiraz, and some of mataro’s more savoury tannins. There is a welcome and a generosity, but a reserve held in check by those tannins and acidity. One taste is plush; the next savoury and more tart; and then vice-versa. Wines that confound in the mouth intrigue the mind.

When the weather warms up this red wine chilled is superb with ratatouille. When the weather cools down this wine is superb with cassoulet. Some geography and food culture is immutable. We don’t make those rules; nor do we break them. This wine is afterall a Rhone blend; it is deep speaking to deep, a half a world away.

Sister’s Run is serious fun. Our talented young winemaker Elena wears steel cap work boots every day of course, but carries a pair of high heels in back of the ute, only for emergencies, like last minute invitations to accept trophies at gala wine show dinners and the like.

Returning from a ‘knees-up’ at midnight, mid vintage, she managed to kick off one high heel and slip back into a boot’ just as the cellar crew cried out, ‘Run Sister Run’; and exactly then our winemaker and label took flight!

The stiletto and boot are Sister’s Run; an independently owned and operated winery with a fierce commitment to making the best wines we can from family vineyards. We don’t take ourselves as seriously as we take our wines, but agree with Elena, all you need to know about wine is the five ‘V’s and remember the best wine is the wine you like.

We hope you enjoy this wine as much as we did making it. Cheers from all at Sister’s Run… Alexandra, Alison, Angela, Barbara, Berenice, Dani, Daria, Elena, Geri, Helen, Jessica, Leah, Leisa, Maree, Rhiannan, Stefka, Yordanka, Sunny and Honorary Sisters: Ant, Dylan, Encho, Lance, Peter, Todor & Zar.
