Description

Blackberry, Oak, Vanilla

"Wonderfully ripe with excellent varietal clarity, the wine shows blackcurrant, cigar, clove and cedar characters on the nose. It's mouthfilling and generously textured on the palate, delivering excellent weight and persistency, beautifully framed by chalky tannins. Robust and delectably appealing. At its best: now to 2036" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2024

Purple-black and dark; reassuringly grainy. Blackberries, dark fruits, and ripe compote. Fresh and alive and very primary in its cabernet aromatics: cassis, in a word. Wispy wafts of distant vanilla whiff through, hinting at the faintest aftershave-like application of subtle oak. Definable and discernible cabernet sauvignon. The sweetness and light of ripe and lush cabernet fruit, but then the reverse of the medal: something more trenchant and considered. An otherwise pert and long palate, with cool and cooling dark berry fruits. There’s depth in the mid-palate, offering an ordered opulence. The giving fruit is balanced by textural and drying tannins.

Stewing beef of whatever cut your multi-generational family butcher has on hand or recommends. Use Star Anise in the stew, and 200ml of stout. Mashed potato, of course. These very savoury flavours will play the perfect Bridge Partner to this Bethlehem Block’s generous homage to the left bank of the Gironde.

Sister’s Run is serious fun. Our talented young winemaker Elena wears steel cap work boots every day of course, but carries a pair of high heels in back of the ute, only for emergencies, like last minute invitations to accept trophies at gala wine show dinners and the like. Returning from a ‘knees-up’ at midnight, mid vintage, she managed to kick off one high heel and slip back into a boot’ just as the cellar crew cried out, ‘Run Sister Run’; and exactly then our winemaker and label took flight! The stiletto and boot are Sister’s Run; an independently owned and operated winery with a fierce commitment to making the best wines we can from family vineyards. We don’t take ourselves as seriously as we take our wines, but agree with Elena, all you need to know about wine is the five ‘V’s and remember the best wine is the wine you like. We hope you enjoy this wine as much as we did making it. Cheers from all at Sister’s Run... Alexandra, Barbara, Berenice, Dani, Daria, Elena, Geri, Helen, Jessica, Maree, Margie, Elouise, Stefka and Honorary Sisters; Encho, Jackson, Lance, Todor and Zar.
