Schubert Wairarapa Syrah 2015
A rich, earthy & vigorous Syrah

Description

"Dark, deep red colour with garnet hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is firmly packed and intense with deep aromas of savoury dark-red and black berried fruits along with oak spice, black pepper and layers of complexing earthy notes along with game and undergrowth, unfolding violet florals. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a rich and well-concentrated core of savoury dark-red and blackberry fruit entwined with spice, pepper and earth, unfolding some dark herb and game nuances intermixed with violet florals. The fruit richness and vibrancy is underlined by good tannin extraction and structure with lacy acidity providing energy and tension. The wine carries to a lingering finish of spices and pepper. This is a rich, concentrated, savoury Syrah with earthy dark berry fruit, spices, pepper with nuances of game and dark herbs on a vigorous palate with structure and tension. Match with roasted game meat dishes over the next 6+ years" Raymond Chan, Sep 2018

This wine displays a vivid purple hue with beautiful cool climate aromas of forest floor, cold coals, layers of spice, cinnamon bark and char with lifted floral notes. A youthful vibrant entrance of lovely ripe whole berries, open fires, leading into layers of forest floor lingering spice with structured firm and gamey tannins. A wine full of life and vigour with a long cellaring potential.

Hand-picked and 100% de-stemmed. Fermentation in stainless steel vats and maceration for 3 weeks. Aged in 35% new and 65% used French Oak barriques for 30 months.

A windy spring and wet spell over the New Year was followed by a hot, dry summer.

Cellaring potential for 8-15 years.

Food Pairing: Brilliant to pair with game meats and starch dishes
