"A lovely wine with an intriguing bouquet of fruit, spice and complexity. A dry wine touches the palate then core fruit flavours ripe grapefruit, green and yellow peach, apricot and barrel spices. Almost full-bodied with acidity and tannins adding tension and poise before the fruit flavours and wood impacts take over. I like the hint of gun-flint adding further complexity to the style. The 2021 Napa Valley Chardonnay includes fruit from Carneros and Stags Leap District. The cool climate and clay loam soils of Carneros create an elegant core, while our estate vineyard in Stags Leap District adds complexity and richness.

The 2021 vintage was excellent and mild. Moderate drought resulted in a lower-than-average yield, but produced small, deeply concentrated berries of excellent quality. The fruit was harvested by hand from August 26 through October 16. Lots underwent primary fermentation in the barrel, were inoculated and tracked through malolactic fermentation, and then stopped when they reached the ideal balance of richness and acidity. The wine aged sur lie for 6 months in French oak (20% new) to add texture and a gentle toastiness.
