Description

Herbal, Oak, Plum

"Splendidly fruited and fragrant, the bouquet shows dark plum, sweet cherry, olive, clove and toasted almond notes, followed by a beautifully weighted palate offering supple texture backed by layers of polished tannins, finishing structured and persistent. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2030" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2025

Our Pinot Noir is made in an elegant appealing style which can be enjoyed when young but will also benefit from a little cellaring allowing it to develop more complex characters. Fragrant floral red cherry, strawberry and raspberry notes.  A complex nose with earthy savoury and spicy characters.  Delicious sweet cherry and berry fruit flavours with some earthy forest floor and spicy notes. French oak gives subtle structure to this fruity Pinot Noir with a lovely lingering finish.

Richmond Plains produced New Zealand's first certified organic Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

Grapes bunches were thinned and hand and machine harvested to maximise flavours and fruit quality.  The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed and transferred to open fermenters.  After a period of cold maceration for 4 days the juice was set for fermentation with natural wild yeast.  Regular hand plunging up to 18 days was carried out in the winery.  The fermenting juice was then transferred into a French oak barrels  for maturation and to wait for secondary fermentation in the spring before bottling in the beginning of summer.

Food Pairing: Enjoy with salmon, roast poultry or red meats.
