Description
Oak, Plum, Spice
"There’s no mistaking the sense of place with aromas of white soil and wild flowers, the varietal signature of red berries with cherry and old strawberry sitting nicely alongside moments of plum then spice. Fine tannins and acidity salivate and coat the palate with texture and finesse while red fruits and wild flowers are at the core and mid-palate. Youthful and new, complex and varietal, a wine of place and time, complexity and charm" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Sep 2020
"A perfumed nose of rooibos tea, crushed strawberries, rose petal, grated nutmeg and moss. Medium-bodied with silky tannins. Textural and vibrant with an array of floral notes that combine and add depth to red fruit, herbs and spice, culminating in an impressive finish. Long" James Suckling, Jamessuckling.com, Sep 2022
Deep crimson hue. Deep brooding nose of plum and blue fruits with lifted floral spicy notes. Full bodied Pinot Noir with ripe rich fruits, mouth filling texture and round plush tannins giving the wine weight and power that lingers on the palate with a savoury, moreish finish.
Spring and early summer were warm and dry resulting in good flowering and crops. From Christmas through to harvest, we experienced very warm, dry and settled weather resulting in beautifully ripe, clean fruit at harvest.
A blend of four vineyards in North Canterbury. The sites include the most northern vineyard on the Omihi Saddle planted on Omihi clay soils; 'Top Block' which is part of the “Golden Mile” on Blacks Ave in Waipara also planted on Omihi clay soils; Three Sisters Vineyard on Mackenzies Rd in Waipara, planted on Rangitata gravels; and The Porters family vineyard on Mackenzies Rd in Waipara, planted in 2004 on Domett Clay soils. Harvest dates: 13 March - 29 March 2020.
Hand-picked and fermented with natural vineyard yeasts in open top fermenters with 25% whole bunch. It was aged in French barrels, 20% new for 12 months before settling in stainless steel on light lees for a further 6 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
