Description
Dry
- Dry style
- Ripe tropical fruit
- Lemon zest
- Bright acidity
"It’s beautifully fragrant on the nose showing Granny Smith apple, grapefruit, rockmelon and lemon zest characters, leading to a vibrant palate that’s juicy and flavoursome. The wine offers lovely fruit intensity backed by bright acidity, finishing long and very tasty" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jan 2020
Layered with appealing flavours of lifted citrus, aromas of ripe lime, grapefruit and riper passionfruit and blackcurrant. This is complemented by mineral notes of oyster shell and wet stone. The palate has a refreshing and elegant acidity, with lovely fruit weight giving an appealingly full palate. This wine has a rich mineral saltiness that leads through to a pleasant and lingering finish that leaves you wanting more.
Pretty Paddock 2019 is an estate grown wine from vineyards in Lower Wairau belonging to the Holdaway family who have nearly 40 years’ grape growing experience in the Dillons Point and Lower Wairau areas of Marlborough, New Zealand. This wine is mostly from a single block (CA) from our Opawa Vineyard in Lower Wairau Rd with a small amount from a block (JB) in our Sutherlands Vineyard in Jones Rd. Opawa Vineyard is a fertile and vigorous site and vines are grown without irrigation. Sutherlands Vineyard is a low-lying block and irrigation is used to regulate impact from sodium on the vines.
The 2019 vintage was an outstanding one for Marlborough. We had a cooler period through flowering, which naturally lowered crop levels. A warm and dry Summer gave perfect ripening conditions, resulting in clean fruit with excellent flavour concentration.
In 1842 James Holdaway arrived in Nelson and by 1853 at only 17 years of age he was working in Marlborough. One of his many jobs was driving a bullock dray carrying wool from the Awatere Valley to the Wairau Bar. In 1864 he purchased land in Dillons Point on the lower Wairau plains which he named Lowlands. Now his descendants grow Sauvignon Blanc grapes on this land.
