Arriving like a classic Black Forest Cake
Arriving like a classic Black Forest Cake
Description
Blackberry, Chocolate, Oak
Medium cherry red. Arriving like a classic Black Forest Cake, with sweet cherry and raspberry coulis garnished with some dark chocolate shavings. This red-fruited nose enticingly leaps out of the glass before some riper, darker fruit characters reveal themselves. Fresh and lively early on the palate with the same bright red fruits before rolling into Satsuma plum and Blueberries with a touch of choc-coated liquorice. Some soft tannins and herbal spice on the back palate provide a seamless integration throughout for a beautifully balanced glass of wine. A wonderful red blend with the lifted red fruit of the Grenache, rolling into mouthfilling generosity of the Shiraz, allbuilt around a savoury Mourvèdre framework that makes for a delicious wine. Ready to go from release but will reward cellaring of up to 5 years.
Pikes Wines is grounded by family. From brothers to sons, since 1984 when the Pike family first stepped foot on Polish Hill River soil and decided to make wine together. Our site is unique, with tough acidic soils overlaying ancient dark grey siltstone of the Kadlunga Slate formation, which has lay beneath Polish Hill River for 650 million years. Our wine style is elegant and refined, yet approachable. A style that has been forged over many years by geology and geography, viticultural learnings, and a hands-off winemaking approach.
Good winter rain allowed soil profiles to be full, giving the vines a great start to the growing season. A remarkably cool summer followed, providing perfect conditions for healthy balanced vines. The long ripening period produced fruit with a perfect balance of good colour, high natural acidity, and concentrated flavours. 100% Estate grown, “The Assemblage” is our Northern Rhone inspired blend.
