Description

Apple, Dry, Lime

"Brightly fruited and elegantly expressed, showing lime cordial, crunchy apple, floral and wet limestone notes, leading to a focused palate that's juicy and linear. Charming and vibrant with a lengthy crisp finish. At its best: now to 2030" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2023

Scale_-_Dry

"Bright, even, pale yellow. The nose is freshly full, with aromas of citrus, lime peel, lime flower, minerals and a touch of honey. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, aromas of lime, mandarin melded with lime peels, stony minerals, floral and honey hints. The wine is clean and crisp with purity; vibrant acidity carries a dusty mouthfeel to a dry, crisp finish" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Jul 2023

An enticing aroma of white florals, lime, and savoury apple. Medium bodied, off-dry in style, with intense citrus, lemon-barley, and marmalade flavors, showing good depth. Drink now or age for 6 years and let the wine show the developing complexities of a great Riesling.

Established in 1996, proudly family owned and managed, Borthwick Vineyard produces wines that are a direct reflection of the Gladstone region, New Zealand. Ancient stony, alluvial soils, a cool climate, sustainable practices and minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery, mean our wines display distinctive single vineyard characteristics.

Planted in 2007 our one hectare of Riesling vines are lovingly cared for ensure optimal concentration and ripeness in the wines. Planted in clone 239 on rootstock 3309, the vines produce compact bunches that promote citrus characters and racy acidity, the hallmark of the Borthwick Riesling.

The growing season for the 2022 vintage saw an early budburst with high growing degree days resulting in the earliest harvest ever. 2022 provided some challenging growing conditions but good vineyard and canopy management produced clean ripe fruit harvest time. Great flavours colour and balance across the varietals.

Our Riesling is picked and quickly pressed prior to settling and inoculation with selected yeast strains that promote a slow, cool fermentation. The fermentation is arrested when we feel the best balance has occurred between sweetness and acidity.
