Description
Black Market Mystery Wines™ are simply wines we love, with the branding hidden and revealed only when it arrives at your door!
"Bright floral notes like elderflower come with apples and guava. Medium-bodied, clean and fluid with easy freshness through the finish. Drink now" James Suckling
This lively wine has aromas of fresh herbs, currants, passion fruit, gooseberry and limes. The zesty palate has ripe citrus and stone fruit flavours and a fresh dry mineral finish.
2026 was an excellent growing season for Wairarapa. A warm spring delivered healthy vine canopies and beautifully balanced fruit, while summer brought long dry spells punctuated by the occasional welcome downpour to refresh the vines. Harvest began with a cool southerly change that gently slowed ripening, followed by an extended stretch of settled autumn weather that allowed excellent flavour concentration and balance to develop across the vineyards.
We started harvesting clean ripe fruit in late March and concluded in mid-April, with stunning weather throughout. Our spread of vineyards down the Ruamahanga river valley provide a broad palette of classic Sauvignon flavours. These naturally low yielding vineyards, with moderate canopy growth, always give concentrated fruit with ripe acidity.
Once the fruit was harvested, it was pressed before being clarified and fermented at cool temperatures. We used a wide range of yeasts to express complexity, aroma and texture across the different ferments. The wines were fermented dry and allowed to rest on light lees to enhance minerality and mouthfeel. The blend was then assembled and prepared for bottling.
