"Its fabulously ripe and inviting with golden peach, rockmelon, green pear and rich floral aromas on the nose, followed by a succulent palate delivering pristine fruit flavours together with rounded mouthfeel and juicy acidity, making it gorgeously drinkable. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2021
A ripe opulent style of Pinot Gris full of lifted floral, pear drop and ginger aromas. The palate is lush with citrus, peach and tropical flavours, a rich concentrated texture and long spicy mineral finish.
The fruit for this Mystery Pinot Gris was grown on the the winemakers home vineyard. The combination of free draining soils and a cool, dry climate make this an ideal site for ripening aromatic Pinot Gris. The long growing season and naturally low yields of small berried grapes mean we consistently harvest concentrated fruit. 2021 was another high-quality vintage with the settled weather through the summer and autumn giving us ripe grapes in pristine condition.
The focus in the winery is to capture the pure fruit flavours that come in from the vineyard. The grapes were harvested and gently pressed before the juice was immediately clarified. Fermentation occurred at cool temperatures with selected yeast strains to release the aromatic potential in the juice. After fermentation the wine rested on yeast lees to enhance mouthfeel before blending and preparation for bottling.
Food Pairing: Great on its own, this Pinot Gris is great with a wide range of foods, including pizza, seafood or pulled pork sliders.
