Black Market Mystery Wines™ are simply wines we love, with the branding hidden and revealed only when it arrives at your door!
"A lovely example, with an engaging bouquet of yellow stone fruits, lees, a touch of gun-flint and natural fruit spices, then pomaceous fruits and new oak scents of caramel and wood. Delicious on the palate, with persistent flavours of citrus and pomaceous fruits, grapefruit and peach, red apple, and a leesy, wood spice complexity. A whisper of gun-flint lingers on the finish, carried by the acid line and alcohol. Overall, delicious and well made, with best drinking from day of purchase through 2033" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
A classic cool climate barrel fermented Chardonnay with aromas of lemon, grapefruit and melon, supported by gunsmoke and toasty oak. The palate has ripe nectarine fruit, rich texture and a long mineral finish.
A combination of clone 15, 95 and Mendoza, are planted on ancient free draining river terrace where Chardonnay thrives in the cool sunny climate.
2024 was an excellent vintage, and the fruit for this wine was handpicked in optimum condition in late March. From there it was gently pressed straight to barriques and puncheons (30% new oak) where fermentation occurred, followed by Malolactic fermentation in the Spring. After 11 months resting in barrel on full lees, the wine was assembled and bottled.
Food Pairing: This wine is incredibly versatile with food, Huhu grubs sauteed in garlic butter being a favourite.
