This 2020 Pinot Noir has an inviting nose of concentrated dark fruits and warm toasted notes. The palate shows complex flavours of ripe cherry and dark berry fruits, married with black olive and a hint of spice. This is a full-bodied style Pinot Noir with soft tannin and a warm oaky finish. Perfect for drinking immediately, this wine will continue to develop for another five years from vintage date or beyond. A brilliant wine from release, this wine will continue to flourish over the next three to five years.
Grapes for this Pinot Noir were sourced from the Omaka Valley in Marlborough, known for its rich and compact clay soils, this terrior is exquisite for growing Dijon clones 114 and 667. The fruit was continuously monitored during the ripening season until the berries had reached paramount flavour intensity, the grapes were then machine harvested and brought to the winery.
At the winery the grapes were soaked in cold water to extract the utmost colour and flavour from the berries. The two Dijon clones were fermented separately and plunged frequently during the height of fermentation. The wine was then pressed to tank then racked off gross lees to a mixture of 22 per cent new French oak and older seasoned 225 litre French oak barriques. The two separate batches underwent a 100% Malolactic fermentation for being blended and prepared for bottling.
