Black Market Mystery Wines™ are simply wines we love, with the branding hidden and revealed only when it arrives at your door!

"It's finely scented on the nose, with white-fleshed nectarine, orange peel, subtle spice, and Asian pear aromas, leading to an elegantly weighted palate delivering whispering sweetness and beautifully pitched acidity, making it juicy and lingering. At its best: now to 2028" Sam, Kim, Wine Orbit

"Somewhat restrained flavours of honey, cassia and brown pear sit brooding on the palate of this spicy, savoury pinot gris. Late phenolics add a touch of grip to the dry palate, before a perfumed finish asserts itself alongside wet-stone tinged acidity" Stephen Wong, Master of Wine

A captivating expression of Pinot Gris, this wine opens with alluring aromas of ripe stone fruits and delicate hints of gingerbread spice. The palate is beautifully structured, balancing vibrant acidity with a silky texture that carries through to a long, graceful finish. Elegant and layered, it’s a sophisticated wine that reveals depth and complexity with every sip.

Our vines are now sending their roots deep into the old soils of the Upper Awatere valley, soils which have been molded over the millennia and the vines struggle to find the nutrients they need, helping to reduce the crop naturally, giving us small but flavoursome fruit every year. The weather conditions in the Upper Awatere around harvest are usually dry and sunny, and we can pick the fruit when we want to capture the intense flavours at the best time.

The grapes were quickly pressed off the skins and fermented under very cool conditions. The ferment was stopped when the fruit sweetness complimented the fine acidity. The wine was left on full yeast lees for an extended period to mature and gain extra complexity.
