Mystery Hawkes Bay Syrah 2015 (01)

Description

Although the same grape variety as Shiraz, Syrah is often quite different in style. This Mystery rendition is very fragrant on the nose with raspberry, blackcurrant and a hint of cardamom spice.

An excellent 2015 growing season produced excellent quality Syrah from the Hawkes Bay. The grapes were harvested then destemmed and tipped gently into open top fermenters. Selected parcels were given a short cold soak before being inoculated with yeast specifically chosen to enhance fruit and other varietal characters. Other parcels were allowed to ferment spontaneously with native vineyard yeasts for greater complexity. Following fermentation the wine was drained off its skins before being transferred to French oak hogshead barrels (10% new) for ageing in our cellars. After 15 months of maturation, the wine was blended and bottled.

Food Pairing: This Mystery Syrah's sensual palate of plum and black pepper allow it to stand up to fuller flavoured dishes like spaghetti bolognese or dishes with floral aromatics and spice.
