Description

Hazelnut, Melon, Oak

Black Market Mystery Wines™ are simply wines we love, with the branding hidden and revealed only when it arrives at your door!

"Gorgeously complex and enticing, the bouquet shows ripe stone fruit, rockmelon, vanilla and roasted hazelnut aromas with a hint of flinty nuance. It's concentrated on the palate with terrific weight, delivering creamy texture backed by beautifully pitched acidity, finishing wonderfully long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2030" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2024

"Youthful and vibrant bouquet filled with scents of fresh white fleshed fruits and lees complexities, layers breadth and depth from barrel-fermentation and mineral deposits expand the bouquet and stretch out onto the palate. Lovely weight, texture and dryness with fruit and barrel flavours that reflect the bouquet along with vanilla and roasted nut. Best drinking from late 2024 through 2028+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier

A classic cool climate barrel fermented Chardonnay with aromas of lemon, grapefruit and melon, supported by gunsmoke and toasty oak. The palate has ripe nectarine fruit, rich texture and a long mineral finish.

This premium Chardonnay grown on the South Side of our home vineyard in Wairarapa. A combination of Mendoza,15 and 95 clones are planted on our ancient free draining river terrace where Chardonnay thrives in the cool sunny climate. These grapes were hand harvested to ensure they remained in optimal condition, right up until they were processed.

2022 was an excellent vintage and the fruit was handpicked in optimum condition in March. The fruit was gently pressed straight to barriques and puncheons (25% new oak) where fermentation occurred, followed by Malolactic fermentation in the Spring. After 11 months resting in barrel on full lees, the wine was assembled and bottled.

Food Pairing: This wine is incredibly versatile with food, Huhu grubs sautéed in garlic butter being a favourite.
